Volkswagen after a long time is coming to India with their new model 'Jetta',which is the most"Executive Car" of the Year 2009 awarded by autocar.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Jetta will come with two engine options - 1.6L petrol and 1.9L diesel. The 1.6L petrol engine develops 102PS at 5600 rpm and 148Nm of max torque at 3800 rpm. According to Volkswagen, jetta can reach a top speed of 186 kph and can be accelerated from 0 to 100 kph in just 12.2 seconds. The 1.9L TDI is the same engine that is currently under the hood of the laura. The 1.9L cranks out 105PS of max power. The 250Nm of peak torque is available from 1900 rpm.The new jetta might come in three variants - trendline petrol, trendline diesel and comfortline diesel.The comfortline variant of diesel jetta will come with the 6 speed automatic DSG gearbox. Other variants will come with 5 speed manual transmission.

This is the car that Maruti hopes will challenge the Hyundai i10. Known as the Maruti A-Star in India, as it will not replace the Alto here, the car for the Indian market will also have wind down windows and other modifications made to it.
Power comes from the same 67bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine however and it’s suspended by MacPherson struts up front and a torsion beam at the rear. And although it’s only a smidge over 3.6-metres in length, it’s full sized five-door. The car’s standout attribute is the car’s surprisingly slippery drag co-efficient of 0.30
For a start, it’s a much better-looking thing than the small Suzukis we’ve known before. The oversized headlights, prominent radiator grille and the added ‘wedge’ to the car’s bodyside give it a modern, cheeky look, and an abundance of visual appeal. This car has character.
The new Alto’s cabin isn’t quite as funky, but it’s not far off the class standard. There’s plenty of room, even for six foot-plus occupants, but the driving position could be improved by a steering wheel that adjusted for reach.
What’s missing from the interior is the same chirpy design character that manifests itself outside. The fascias, seats and trims of our test car felt monotone and boring.
On the move the 1.0-litre triple has a predictable shortage of torque at very low revs, but once you’re rolling it’s commendably refined. Performance feels a little modest relative to the class standard, but buyers are unlikely to mind since working the engine hard doesn’t produce as much of the usual three-cylinder thrash as you might expect.
